Introducing Ramble.

By: Alex PundykMarch 24, 20267 min read

Welcome to Ramble! We’re building the ultimate collector’s platform for musicians, backed by top names in the industry. We hope to make managing and protecting your gear easier than ever— and it all starts with the product we’re introducing today.

Our story

For as long as I can remember, every room of mine from childhood to the apartment where I’m writing this note has been packed with gear. To me, instruments fall somewhere between pets, vehicles, and roommates: they’re like family, they keep us company, we confide in them, they take us places, they’re noisy, we cohabitate, and we have a responsibility to take care of them.

Between moves, travel, and gigging it’s always been hard to keep track of my stuff and to tell if my gear has been protected. When I was wrapping up my last job in ad tech, I couldn’t shake a desire to build something better.

I gave my long-time buddy Alex McGourty a call. McGourty was finishing up his Masters in Music Production at Berklee and coming off a 10 year run as a software engineer at Uber, all while leading Brooklyn-based Hairpin. We connected over that same problem: how can we find a better way to manage and protect our gear? I was lucky enough to convince McGourty to join the mission.

The Ramble platform

Everything starts with collection building. We made the fastest and easiest way to manage your gear. Just add photos or chat with our gear assistant, and AI matches against a proprietary database of 60,000+ instruments. Confirm values, year, condition, and you’re set. A messy room turns into a neatly catalogued collection in seconds. You can further organize into custom folders: by rig, location, instrument type, etc.

Ramble insurance

Ramble is a fully licensed insurance brokerage in all 50 states, with real policy-writing infrastructure. Once you’ve uploaded your collection, submitting an application for coverage takes just seconds.

Ramble is proudly administered by Bolton Street Programs, a renowned MGA with decades of experience managing music industry-specific programs. All policies are underwritten by Accelerant, a top global carrier with a key emphasis on specialty tech platforms. Our dedicated underwriter Laura has 20+ years of experience covering musical instruments. She thought she mispronounced Moog once at a work dinner and called us in a panic the next day.

I personally got my broker’s license in every state so that Ramble could become a full-stack source of truth for insurance— and to learn (in excruciating detail) the ways in which your gear is under-protected by others.

Your gear is f*cked

We wrote a full piece about this, but here’s the simple story: your gear is probably f*cked if something happens to it. Your baseline renters or homeowners insurance almost certainly does not cover it, and even if you added a rider or endorsement, that coverage is often narrower than you think.

Standard policies limit coverage for all instruments (combined) at $2,500. They usually won’t pay full replacement values. Many don’t cover losses away from your home. And they most often do not cover gear used to make any amount of money (literally more than $0.01).

So if you own more than $2,500 of gear, gig, teach, own anything vintage, or travel— you are likely not protected. And in particular if you fly with gear, you’re rolling the dice every single time you get on that plane.

Ramble policies are different

Ramble is the simplest and most comprehensive coverage on the market. Our policies start at $175 for over $13,000 in annual protection. We offer full global coverage against all risks: theft, loss, accidental breakage, vandalism, fire, flood, earthquakes and more. We cover anything you might use to make music: all instruments, recording gear, consoles, mics, sound and lighting equipment, cameras, computers, cables and more. There are just a few common exclusions.

Ramble gear selection and coverage

The Ramble platform gives you self-service when you want it, and white-glove service when you need it. You can add and remove gear at any time, no back-and-forth required. Price changes or refunds will be processed automatically. Claims are submitted directly in the Ramble insurance dashboard, and handled by Raphael & Associates— a top-rated claims handling team contracted by Accelerant for our program. They’re reachable by phone, 24/7.

Who we cover

Ramble works for hobbyists, collectors, professional musicians, teachers, students, touring musicians, full recording studios, bands with multiple members, and even management companies with multiple bands. Personal, professional, or both— we’re here for you.

Sharing the love

When you join Ramble, your profile is set to private by default— we deeply respect and value your discretion. However, we also know that some gear heads love to connect over this shared passion. If that’s you, feel free to make your profile public and choose exactly which gear to share with the Ramble community. You can follow other collectors, search for and bookmark favorite gear, react to what you love, and get notified when others do the same. Ramble is a place for discovering, celebrating and connecting over gear— not for flexing. All gear is great gear. Check out our full Principles for more.

D’Addario partnership

Early into building Ramble, we were so fortunate to get introduced to the team at D’Addario— the top name in strings and accessories, with a storied history of innovating for musicians. From the start, D’Addario shared our vision for how we could make managing and protecting gear easier. Together we built Gear Collection, a white-labeled version of Ramble that lives inside the Players Circle experience. We released Gear Collection in late 2025, allowing the community of 600,000+ Players Circle members to share their collections, get inspired and connect in a whole new way. And now with just a click, users will be able to sync their full collections to Ramble to get the best insurance coverage in the industry. More on our partnership here.
