Standard property insurance thinks in terms of depreciation: "actual cash value" that shrinks as an item ages. Vintage guitars do the opposite. Gibson shipped fewer than 2,000 sunburst Les Paul Standards between 1958 and 1960, and clean examples now trade for hundreds of thousands of dollars. A payout calculated like a used couch would be an insult.
Ramble insures vintage instruments at the value you declare, so the number on your policy reflects what the instrument is actually worth in today's market, not what an adjuster's depreciation table says. And because a repaired headstock break permanently discounts a collector-grade instrument no matter how clean the work is, diminished value coverage pays the difference between the pre-loss value and the post-repair market value, subject to policy terms.
The vintage market doesn't hold still, and neither should your coverage. When your guitar appreciates, edit its value in your Ramble collection and resubmit to cover at the new value. If a value comes down or you sell, submit the change and you'll be refunded the premium difference.
No schedule-change request forms, no annual re-underwriting ritual. Your collection page is the source of truth and the policy follows it.
Some specialty insurers require formal appraisals before they'll bind higher-value instruments. Clarion, for example, requires appraisals for items over $5,000, per their published materials. With Ramble you declare values digitally, get a quote immediately from your chat-uploaded collection, and apply in one sitting. Keep your appraisals for your own records; they're a good-to-have for us, but they're not a gate you have to pass before coverage starts. And if you'd rather have someone else do the cataloging, our concierge team will happily handle it for you.
Plenty of vintage instruments still work for a living. Ramble's coverage is worldwide and all-risk: the '64 Jazzmaster is covered hanging on the wall, on stage, in the van, and in a checked flight case. Professional use is fully covered, so playing your collection never voids protecting it.

Ramble protects against theft, loss, accidental breakage, vandalism, fire, flood, earthquakes, and more.
